Traditional Ecological Knowledge

"Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) is the body of knowledge acquired over generations by a group of people living in intimate association with the natural world. TEK can be found reflected in almost all aspects of indigenous society, including (but not limited to) the use and preparation of local foods, prediction of meteorological events, indigenous medical practices, and arts and crafts.
So, according to this definition, TEK includes many 'domains' of human activity...and it also focuses on indigenous communities. TEK is also something that local people(people who live somewhere but are not indigenous) practise."

Welcome to the TEK network

**Warning - Spammer found on EK network!**We have been alerted to the presence of a spammer on the website - Lavone Pearson. This person has sent people messages with a link to a pornographic website. Lavone Pearson has been removed from the website and now administrators have to approve all new members. We regret this gross breach of our online community and have taken steps to ensure that it will not happen again.

This network is a volunteer-run project and an online open space for international dialogue on Ecological Knowledge. Please join us and see what we can create here! The founders envision a ‘community of learning’ at the intersection of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), ecology, local culture, and western science.

The network could provide information (supplied by members), for discussion/consensus building. Chat rooms could be used for research or networking purposes. We could make links to organizations/societies doing relevant work, links to jobs in the field, links to funding sources...and more...but this can be built over time... It is a place for research project participants to interact on-line with other people (locally and globally) regarding Traditional Ecological Knowledge.

Here are some steps for people new to the site (everything is optional and can be done in any order!):

1. Sign in.
2.Edit your profile - add a profile photo to represent you, and tell us something about your practice, your questions and your passions.
3. Upload some photos, and/or videos and sounds.
4. Read about other participants by clicking on the "Members" tab. Leave comments for them on their comment wall.
5. Participate in discussions that are underway under the"Forums" tab. Join a Group. Start your own groups and discussions.
6. Use your Blog to keep us updated on what you are doing. Keep uploading photos and sharing projects.
